General McLane High School Lancer Wrestling. Gary Gilbert founded the school’s wrestling program in 1961. The program’s wrestling record (as of the completion of the 2007-2008 season) is a stellar 448 wins, 226 losses (a 67% winning record)!

The program has had 2 coaches with 100 wins or more. Steve Samol, who coached from 1965-1975 retired with 100 wins. Tim Mulholland was head coach from 1986-1988 and again from 1994-2004.  He retired with 137 wins.

General McLane’s present head coach is Ryan Cook, who has been at the helm since the 2004-2005 season. Coach Cook has racked up 54 wins in just 4 seasons!

General McLane has had 3 PIAA state champions and 22 state place winners. The Lancers wrestling team placed 3rd at the state tournament in 1986. They also finished 5th in 1987 and 5th in 1977.

Between 1972-1975, McLane wrestling teams won an incredible, record setting 38 straight matches, had back to back unbeaten seasons and won 3 Erie County League titles.

The McLane wrestling program’s most recent, proudest achievement happened in February of 2004 when they stunned everyone by winning the NW Regional AAA Tournament in Altoona, PA. The Lancers had 4 tournament champions and six place winners.
