Tool City Recap
After a LOOOOONG lay off the boys were back in action at our toughest tournament to date. The Tool City tournament came and went without an individual champion but not with out strong efforts from individuals.
Tim Wheeling wrestled a great tournament and finished 3rd in his first action of the season at 103. Tim knocked off talented Corey Bush of Ridgway, the #2 seed, before a loss in the semis. Wheeling then ran off two more wins including another win over Bush in the consi finals.
Senior captain Seth Stonis suffered a tough OT loss in the Semis and came back to dominate his next two opponents to earn a 3rd place. Seth is now 17-2 on the season.
Caleb Baker continued to impress in his first season as a starter and wrestled through a tough 285 field to earn a fourth place finish. Both of Caleb’s losses came against senior Joe Chittester of Ridgway in the quarter and the consolation finals.
Dalton Lester and Doug Myers both earned their first Tool City Medals after both of them dropped matches in the semi finals and then finished in 6th place.
Hats off to the rest of the team which showed a lot of improvement and effort in this first tournament of the new year. Paul Scharrer, Zac Baumgartner, Tommy Nuhfer and Travis Bryant all finished with a 2-2 record, one match away from earning a spot on the podium. Zac’s 5-0 win over talented veteran Evan Dahl of Maplewood was a surprise to most in the stands but not to the coaching staff that watches him improve daily.
The month of January will see most wrestlers compete in 20 or more matches, including 10 matches this week between the Prep Dual and the Corry Duals. Also the much anticipated 2 pound growth allowance comes into effect as well.
Continue to push yourselves and this will be a month to remember.
