War at the Shore IV

In a rematch from War at the Shore II in which we lost to McDowell by one point, this years team dominated and left no doubt of the outcome from the opening whistle.

The match started out at 145  where sophomore Ryan Ruth got the momentum going scoring a pin with 5 seconds left in a match that was 3-0 at the time. At 152 starter and undefeated Dalton Lester was out of the lineup and McDowell received a forfeit to tie the match.

That is when we started rolling and never looked back until the lead was insurmountable. Tom Nuhfer, forced into action to replace starter Corey Goss, started fast and ended just as fast earning a 15-4 major decision scoring 5 takedowns and forcing his opponent into giving up 3 penalty points for stalling.

Doug Myers was next and he also used a stalling point to earn a 9-1 major. With time running out the Trojan wrestler was, for the second time in the match, hit for stalling earning Doug a point which he gave right back when he released his opponent to get another takedown to gain the major. Senior captain Seth Stonis was next to add to the McLane lead with an 8-5 decision.

The following four bonus wins put the match out of reach and sealed the victory for the Lancers. Sophomore Travis Bryant added a first period fall in 1:11. Caleb Baker followed with a pin in the third period running the score to 29-6 and bumping Caleb’s record to 6-0 with 6 falls on the season. Paul Scharrer added a forfeit and freshman Tim Wheeling added the fastest fall of the night in just 27 seconds to make the lead 41-6.

McDowell added four bonus point victories in a row to make the score 41-26 before Zac Baumgartner used an early take down and a late escape to make the final score 44-26.

With two starters out and two wrestlers up a weight class the boys banded together and overcame a major hurdle to earn a team victory in front of over 1,000 fans in the Erie Civic Center. Superior conditioning and confidence in their ability played a huge role in the win.

Congrats on the victory guys and many more to come.
