1-0, 42-21 over Conneaut Lake!!!

Big win last night to get the dual meet portion of our season underway. We handled the Lakers in dominating fashion to the tune of 42-21. While the dual meet aspect of wrestling is a totally different beast, I think that the team handled the challenge very well and proved that they will be able to come together as a unit for a team goal.

Early season conditioning and determination can be attributed to putting this dual out of hand. Even in our three losses that went the distance we had the opponent “on the ropes” with a chance to win at the end.

Most of the big wins/matches came without bonus points. Tim Wheeling avenged a loss from last season, when he was wrestling up a weight class, and out worked Bobby Jurako 3-0. Travis Bryant dominated the low scoring 2-0 match at 215 with a win over D10 3rd place finisher Drew Ketcham. On the otherside of things Tom Nuhfer lost a heartbreaker when he surrendered the go ahead takedown to last years D10 runnerup Dennis Diodati with less than a second left on the clock.

Caleb Baker, Doug Myers and Dalton Lester added falls and Zac Baumgartner received a forfeit. Also scoring bonus points were Kyle Kuntz, who scored an impressive 8 takedowns on his way to a technical fall, and Jay Stockhausen with a major decision. DJ Myers also earned a decision (and a milkshake) with his 3 takedowns and 6-1 decision.

Parker McDermott continued his hot start on the JV level racking up 2 more wins, both by fall, to put him at 7-0 with 7 pins on the young season.

Congrats on the team effort guys.
