LANCERS WIN MOUNTAINEER TOURNAMENT
Congrats to the team on a very impressive showing at the season opening Mountaineer tournament. The team battled through the change in schedule and the absence of a few starters to win the tournament over very talented Corry and New Oxford teams.
With school canceled on Friday due to a harsh storm we had a change of schedule and left early and had to tough work out at the P-O high school and helped move mats and set up for the tournament, wrestlers moving mats and managers mopping and taping them. The team also competed with out Kyle Kuntz 103, and Doug Myers 189 who were both unable to compete due to sickness and injuries.
As Don Goss‘ write up on the news page states we had three champions..DJ Myers 135, Travis Bryant 215 and Caleb Baker 285. This was the first tournament title for both Myers and Bryant. Bryant along with Baker concluded the tournament 4-0 with 4 falls.
Runner up finishes were turned in by Tim Wheeling 112, Brandon Horn 125, Zac Baumgartner 140, Dalton Lester 160, Tommy Nuhfer 171 and Matt Campbell 189. Wheeling’s loss was at the hands of 2009 PIAA 6th place finisher Jordan Conway of New Oxford. Jay Stockhausen 145 placed third in what was arguably the deepest and most competitive weight class. Injury defaults led to a 4th place finish for Paul Scharrer 119 and a much improved Zack Chivari also garnered a 4th place.
A few Notes on the tournament:
A healthy McLane Line up (Kuntz, Myers and Tyler Hendricks have yet to compete) will be able to challenge any team in the District.
Matt Campbell displayed the importance of team depth.
Team Conditioning is great at this point in the season.
Travis Bryant is STRONG!!!
Tommy Nuhfer is much improved.
Jay Stockhausen will be a very dominant wrestler again after a few more competitions to clear the rust from losing last season due to injuries.
Most of the team EXPECTS to win their matches!!!
