Team finishes Second at Jarvis Memorial Tourney
In a very deep and very talented 8 team field we ended up finishing second behind traditional PA power Juniata. Finishing second without a champ and beating 2009 NYS tournament runner-up Pal-Mac showed the balance of this years team. Six wrestlers finished in second place, three in third and two in fourth in a tournament that featured 3 state champs, 14 state medals and 18 state qualifiers.
Runner-Up finishes were turned in by Tim Wheeling 112, Brandon Horn 125, Jay Stockhausen 145, Tommy Nuhfer 171 Doug Myers 189 and Travis Bryant 215. Tim, Brandon and Jay each suffered their only loss against former state medalists (Sean McCormick NY 2nd and 4th, Zack Bietz PA 2nd and Josh Halladay NY 4th respectively). Travis lost his only match to a NY state qualifier, Kurt Shear, but, also defeated PIAA AA State qualifier Todd Hall of Athens.
DJ Myers 135, Zac Baumgartner 140, and Dalton Lester 160 earned 3rd place finishes and Kyle Kuntz 103 and Caleb Baker finished fourth.
This tournament was extremely grueling considering the level of competition and the 7 matches that most had to wrestle. I was extremely impressed with the toughness that the team showed over the two days.
The varsity team is off from competition until January 8th and 9th for the Tool City tournament in Meadville. Time to heal injuries, fix mistakes and spend some quality time with our families.
